How to work together with friends on your goals

Pick one person and show them your week. Not a group, not a feed: one friend who sees what you set out to do and what got done, and who answers honestly.

It works because someone is looking. You do not need the same goals or the same pace. You need a regular moment when your week is seen, and a friend who replies.

Step by step

On iPhone, Android or the web

  1. Open Buddies in Daily Captain and tap Invite a buddy.
  2. Share the invite or copy the link, and send it however you talk: WhatsApp, a message, an email. The link works once, for fourteen days.
  3. Your friend opens it and accepts. Now you are buddies, both ways.
  4. When you review your week, send it to your buddy. They see the week as it was when you sent it.
  5. Your buddy marks each goal, Nice or Where is it?, and sends one honest line back.
  6. Then do the same for theirs.

Why it works

One person who sees your week is enough. A crowd invites performing; one friend invites honesty.

Your buddy sees the week you send, as it was when you sent it, not every edit you make during the day.

The reply is the point: Nice on what got done, Where is it? on what did not, and one honest line.

Questions

Should my accountability partner be a close friend?

Pick someone who will actually ask where a goal went. A close friend works if they will be honest with you.

Do we need the same goals?

No. Each of you writes your own. What you share is the rhythm: one week, one send, one answer.

Can I have more than one buddy?

Yes. You can send a week to up to five people at once.

What is the difference between following someone and a buddy?

Following is one way: their quotes come onto your day and your widget. A buddy is both ways, and a buddy is the only person your week is ever sent to.
