What is Daily Captain?
A daily goal sheet you fill in three times a day: write down what today is for in the morning, one check at midday, an honest count at night. It runs in the browser and as an app on iPhone and Android, and it is based on the free Daily Goal Sheet PDF.
Is it a to-do list?
No. A to-do list holds everything you could do. Daily Captain holds up to seven goals for today and asks one question of each: does this move me toward what I want? You can use it as a list, but it is built for goals.
Why goals instead of to-dos?
Because being busy is not the same as getting closer. It is easy to work all day and only ask too late whether any of it served the goal. Writing the goal first, and counting honestly at night, keeps that question in front of you every day.
How long does it take each day?
About a minute in the morning, a moment at midday, and a couple of minutes at night. There is no setup, no survey and no onboarding: you sign in and write today’s first goal.
Why not plan the whole day?
Most things do not need a time slot; they need a yes or a no. Planning every hour often costs more time than the thing itself, and the plan breaks the moment the day slips. Daily Captain asks whether something is important, not when you will do it.
What are the three moments?
Morning: write down what today is for, up to seven goals in your own words. Midday: one check, where is the day going and is the plan still the plan. Evening: count honestly, one word for the day, and tomorrow’s first goal, which becomes goal one of the next day.
What are yearly goals?
You write the best possible year, then highlight the few you are most excited about. Every daily goal can point at one of them, so a normal Tuesday is connected to something bigger.
Is this a habit tracker with streaks?
No. Daily Captain has no streaks, no red days and no guilt mechanics. You can untick anything, and a missed day leaves nothing to repair.
What happens if I miss a day?
Nothing. There is no streak to lose and no chain to rebuild. You open the app and write the next day.
Can I use it with an accountability buddy?
Yes. You invite one person by link and they see your week and answer. There is no leaderboard and no public feed. A week only travels when you send it.
Why does someone else see my week?
Because being seen works. People work harder in a library than alone at home, and most of us do not have anyone who knows what we set out to do today. One person who sees your week is enough. What they see is exactly what you wrote, as you wrote it.
What is the public page?
Every account gets a page it can share, at dailycaptain.app followed by your name. It shows only what you switch on. You can follow other people, and their quotes surface first in your daily quote.
What does it cost?
Every account starts with 8 days free, then $9.99 a month. One flat price, shown before you are asked for anything. Plus tax where it applies, shown before you pay. Cancel any time and your writing stays readable.
Is there a free plan?
No. There are 8 free days, then one flat price with nothing behind a second wall. The free Daily Goal Sheet PDF, the paper version of the same method, is at heegstra.io/goal-sheet.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in any modern browser. There is also an iPhone app on the App Store and an Android app on Google Play, and adding the web version to your home screen takes a few taps.
Are there reminders?
Yes, one for each moment: morning, midday and evening, at the times you choose, in your own time zone. Each device has its own switch.
Can I get my writing out?
Yes. Export my data in Settings hands you every day, week and year as plain text and JSON. It is your writing, always.
How do I delete my account?
Delete my account in Settings. Your sheets go offline right away and are erased for good after 30 days. Sign in within those 30 days and it all comes back.
Who answers when something breaks?
A person. Write to hello@dailycaptain.app or use the support page; customer service is part of the product, not a chatbot in front of it.
