How to add daily quotes to your lock screen

On iPhone, add a quote widget to the lock screen, the row under the clock. It shows two lines, and you see it every time you wake your phone, before any app gets your attention.

The difference is where the quote comes from. A stock quote widget shows lines from a standard package. Daily Captain shows a quote from someone you follow, a different person every day.

Step by step

On iPhone (iOS 17 or later)

Install Daily Captain from the App Store, sign in and open it once, so the widget has quotes ready.
Touch and hold your lock screen until Customize appears, then tap it.
If your iPhone asks, pick the lock screen rather than the home screen.
Tap the widget row under the clock, or Add Widgets.
Find Daily Captain and tap Today’s quote.
Tap Done.

On Android

The Daily Captain widget goes on the home screen, not the lock screen. Put it on your first home screen page, the one you see right after you unlock, and it is the first thing you read.

Why the lock screen

You wake your phone many times a day. A quote there is read before the feed, the mail and the messages, so the first words of the moment are ones you chose.

Choose them by following people. In Daily Captain the quote comes from a member you follow, or from our own library when none of them has a new one, and the line under the quote tells you who it is from.
