A quote as your wallpaper puts one line on your screen. Daily Captain puts the words of people you follow there, one a day, and a goal sheet behind them.
A wallpaper or a sticky note costs nothing and needs no app, but neither iOS nor Android can put a new line on it automatically: you make the image yourself, in some other app, then replace it by hand whenever you want a change. Daily Captain does that turning over for you, with the words of people you follow first, before a curated list of 365 lines, and you can add your own. A picture you make, or the people you follow
Neither Apple’s nor Google’s own wallpaper instructions describe a quote library, a follow feature or any way to type a caption onto the lock screen; putting a quote on your wallpaper means making the image yourself, in some other app, before you set it. Daily Captain’s quote comes from the people you follow first, round robin, before a curated list of 365 lines, attributed by first name and linked to that person’s page, with your own submissions approved by the founder by hand.
Free, but it never turns over
A wallpaper or a sticky note costs nothing, and Apple’s Photo Shuffle and Google’s Daily wallpaper both offer automatic rotation, but only through a user’s own photos or preset art, never through new text; Google’s own help page states plainly that Daily wallpaper "doesn’t work with your personal photos or live wallpapers." How does following someone put their quote on my screen?
Follow them from their page. Once one of their quotes is approved, it joins your rotation: it can be your daily quote and it can show in your widget, attributed to them by first name and linked back to their page.
Can I submit my own quotes?
Yes, up to 3 a day. The founder reads and approves each one by hand; once approved, it can reach everyone who follows you and joins the shared list.
Which phones does the widget work on?
iOS 17 and later, in small, medium and lock screen rectangular sizes. On Android, a home screen widget in 2x2 and 4x2 sizes, no lock screen widget. There is no web or desktop widget.
