Daily Captain vs Habitify
Checked 22 Sep 2026. Prices and features change; tell us if something is out of date: hello@dailycaptain.app.
Habitify is a clean, cross-platform habit tracker: habits grouped by time of day, streaks and heatmaps, timers and notes, Apple Health and calendar integrations, challenges with friends, on iPhone, Android, Mac, web and both watches. Free for three habits; Premium is $49.99 a year on its site, with other tiers in the App Store.
Daily Captain is a goal sheet, not a habit tracker: seven goals for today in your own words, one check, an honest count at night, no streaks, and one person who sees your week. 8 free days, then $9.99 a month.
If you want to build habits and watch the chain grow, Habitify is a good tool for it, and the free tier may be enough. If the chain is what stresses you, and what you want is to know whether today served a goal, this is the other approach.

The chain, or the goal
Habitify is built around the chain: do the habit, keep the streak, see the heatmap fill. For many people that works. For some it turns into a second job, and one missed day feels like losing months.
Daily Captain does not keep chains. Each day is its own sheet: what is today for, did it happen, what is tomorrow’s first goal. Habits can be on the sheet, but nothing counts them, and a missed day leaves nothing to repair. What it counts instead is honest: how many of today’s goals happened, and whether they moved you toward the year.
Nothing behind a second wall
Habitify’s free tier stops at three habits, and reminders, integrations and off mode are Premium. Daily Captain has no tiers: everyone has the same product at one price. The honest trade is that there is no free version, and Habitify Premium is cheaper per year than Daily Captain.
A person instead of a leaderboard
Habitify’s challenges rank you against friends. Daily Captain’s buddy just reads your week and answers. No rank, no score, no feed. For adults trying to reach something, being seen by one person tends to work better than being ranked by many.
What people who leave Habitify say, and what we did about it
We read the 60 most recent critical App Store reviews of Habitify (the feed is thin, so the sample reaches back several years, with 23 from the last ten months) and its Google Play reviews on 22 Sep 2026. Three themes came up most.
- Bugs: blank widgets, random sign-outs, Health sync stopping, data lost in an update.
- What we did: We are new and have no record to cite. A person answers when something breaks, and your writing exports as plain text at any time.
- Three habits and then a paywall, with an upsell on every other tap.
- What we did: No caps and no upsells, because nobody is on a free tier. Shared plainly: there is no free tier at all.
- Charged after cancelling inside the trial, and support that is slow or a bot.
- What we did: The price is on the page before you start, and a person replies, not a bot. We charge after 8 free days and say so plainly.

Questions
Can Daily Captain track habits?
You can write a habit on the sheet like any other goal, but Daily Captain does not count streaks or draw heatmaps. If that is what you want, Habitify does it well.
Is Daily Captain cheaper than Habitify?
No. Habitify is free for three habits and $49.99 a year for Premium. Daily Captain is $9.99 a month after 8 free days.
Does Daily Captain have streaks?
No. No streaks, no red days, no guilt mechanics. You can untick anything, and a missed day is just a day.
Why goals instead of to-dos?
Because being busy is not the same as getting closer. A to-do list holds everything you could do; a goal sheet holds the few things that move you toward what you want, and asks at night whether they happened.
Why does someone else see my week?
Because being seen works, the way people work harder in a library than alone at home. One person who knows what you set out to do is enough. They see exactly what you wrote, and only when you send it.
How long does Daily Captain take each day?
About a minute in the morning, a moment at midday and a couple of minutes at night. There is no setup and no onboarding: you sign in and write today’s first goal.
